In recent months, the Atlanta Braves have offered enormous contract extensions to players like Michael Harris, Sean Murphy, Austin Riley, and Ozzie Albies (much like the Red Sox did). Riley and Devers’ career stats were compared by MLB Network in a few instances, highlighting how important many of them are. Austin Riley did not get as big a contract as Devers, but he still managed to secure a deal worth $212 million over 10 years....

The punishment means Birmingham, who have lost their last four league games, drop from 13th in the Championship table to 18th, five points clear of the relegation zone. Former manager Harry Redknapp spent heavily before steering the club away from relegation to League One in the 2016-17 season, but has denied responsibility for the points deduction. “It’s surely down to the people who run the club, like the chief executive and the chairman, or whoever, to know if we’ve got any money to spend,” Redknapp told The Daily Telegraph ahead of the EFL announcement....

The Belgium star sustained the injury during Thursday’s 2-0 EFL Cup win over Fulham that moved the defending champions into the quarter-finals of the competition. De Bruyne was hurt when Fulham defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah fell backwards onto his left knee and he could not continue. The midfielder only recently returned from an extended spell on the sidelines due to an injury to the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee....

The 25-year-old Spaniard made his F1 debut in 2015 and finished an impressive sixth in the drivers’ standings for a resurgent McLaren last year. The opening batsman was reportedly suspended for 21 days last week for what his spokesman described as an “off-field incident”. Hales was on Monday withdrawn from England’s preliminary World Cup squad, as well as the one-day international against Ireland on Friday and the ODI series and T20 against Pakistan. Director of England Cricket Ashley Giles made the decision “having considered what is in the best interests of the England team” but insisted it did not signal the end of Hales’ international career....
