Speaking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, the Breaking Bad star explained that he asked Cranston, 66, on his birthday to be his son’s godfather and that he has already met the baby in person. Paul said Cranston jokingly turned down the offer at first, but then he revealed his true feelings, saying that he was very excited and honored by the request. Perhaps the most touching part of the interview was when Paul called Cranston one of his best friends in the world. He said he loved Cranston to death and that choosing him as his son’s godfather was a no-brainer.
Over the years, Paul and Cranston have been involved in a number of separate projects. Paul starred in popular works such as the Breaking Bad sequel El Camino (2019), while Cranston was involved in his own share of critically-acclaimed works such as Trumbo (2015), for which he managed to land an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. In their next highly-anticipated venture, Paul and Cranston will reprise their roles as Jesse Pinkman and Walter White respectively in the final season of Better Caul Saul, bringing everything full circle.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Paul said he was shocked to learn the news of his character’s return, saying he genuinely did not see it coming. He also added that it only makes sense that Jesse Pinkman and Walter White show up in the series finale since the Breaking Bad family has been slowly appearing in Better Call Saul in the latest seasons.
Fans of Breaking Bad will recall the indisputable chemistry between the two, and after five seasons of being co-stars, it’s great to see that they have continued their friendship well beyond the series’ end.
