RELATED: The Best Reversal Characters In Fighting Games
Unfortunately, beginners might find it difficult to select favorites out of this large roster. Thankfully, some Legends in Brawlhalla exist to help newcomers get a proper handle on the game’s fast-paced brawling action.
Updated on October 11, 2021, by Rhenn Taguiam: Players looking for a beat ‘em up brawler will enjoy the straightforward action in Brawlhalla. After all, despite its accessible mechanics, the game also offers a weapon swap mechanic, a diverse combo system, as well as unique abilities for its 53 playable characters.
As a result, Brawlhalla can become quite overwhelming for newcomers who don’t have any idea which characters to pick first. Thankfully, Brawlhalla can become more accessible once new players start their playthroughs with the game’s more welcoming Legends.
15 Scarlet (Hammer, Rocket Lance)
Despite Scarlet’s regal appearance, this cultured gal comes equipped with the full might of a steampunk Grapple Hammer and Rocket Lance. In turn, much of her moves emphasize potent strikes and smashes that will try to hit everything if it couldn’t reach an opponent.
Her high Strength value makes her the perfect newcomer Legend, especially given the game’s fast-paced nature. Her tied Dexterity and Defence give her decent survivability, and her below-average Speed allows her to get out of sticky situations when necessary. Unlike other Legends, Scarlet prefers direct confrontations, making her a great way for newcomers to learn the offensive parts of combat.
14 Ulgrim (Axe, Rocket Lance)
Ulgrim of the forge is arguably one of the best smiths of Asgard, and he brings the same battle prowess in combat. Armed with an Axe and a Rocket Lance, Ulgrim relies on potent yet quick attacks to ensure he hits hard at all costs.
This Legend boasts above-average Strength and Defense, allowing him to endure the pain and unleash heavy counters. With his decent Speed, Ulgrim can chase opponents and sponge through their defenses with ease. However, newcomers will have to note Ulgrim’s low Dexterity stat, which could also become a motivator to master precision combos.
13 Teros (Axe, Hammer)
Living up to his status as a labyrinthian guardian, Teros has a remarkable hatred of adventurers. And he won’t hesitate to show his sheer anger towards visitors - and his love for combat - with his Grapple Hammer and Axe. His dual heavy-hitting weapons of choice give Teros a tanking specialization.
Teros boasts high Strength, which becomes the perfect way for newcomers to dish out strong attacks. Moreover, his above-average Defence allows him to tank damage when necessary. However, his middling Speed and low Dexterity demands careful maneuvering on behalf of players, which can also help them master map dynamics in the game.
12 Orion (Rocket Lance, Spear)
Perhaps the game’s version of a knight in shining armor, no one knows the true identity of Orion behind the mask. All Legends know is that he uses his Rocket Lance and Spear in such a way that no one can determine his identity through his fighting style. In the case of gameplay, Orion boasts one of the most balanced kits that make him ideal for newcomers to train with.
Aside from his below-average Strength, Orion does possess above-average Dexterity, Defense, and Speed. This should allow players to compensate for Orion’s low offense with quick movement escapes, sponging attacks, and attack accuracy. Newcomers who want to train their combos and environmental maneuvering will appreciate Orion.
11 Gnash (Grapple Hammer, Spear)
Gnash the Super Hunter is the epitome of the Homo Sapien back then - a figure so insistent on survival that he may have single-handedly proven humanity’s resilience in the face of extinction. This “ultimate warrior” uses a Grapple Hammer and Spear to make sure he strikes hard and strikes fast.

Thankfully, Gnash does have the statistics to back his claim to fame. His Dexterity and Defence might be middling to low, but he heavily compensates with impressive Strength and Speed. Players who want to train with fast and loose combos will have fun using Gnash to improve their combat approach.
10 Bodvar (Grapple Hammer, Sword)
Bodvar is as typical a Viking as one would suspect - he loves his glory, he loves his drinking, and he loves his fights. As with other more aggressive Legends, his stats allow him to favor more straightforward items. Bodvar’s equal Strength and Dexterity make him agile enough for his Sword and strong enough for the punishing Grapple Hammer. Newcomers will appreciate Bodvar for the straightforward battle style.
His Sword Signatures provide a bit of movement diversity for Bodvar. He has an anti-air against forward-dodgers (NSig), a straightforward long-ranged attack (SSig), and an edge-guard strike (DSig). Likewise, his Hammer Signatures are fiercer but slower and prone to punishes. He has a massive but timing-intensive anti-air (NSig), a short but stackable attack (SSig), and an aggressive long-hitting strike (DSig).
9 Caspian (Gauntlets, Katars)
Caspian is a master thief with a knack for stealing the spotlight. Albeit ironic in this hunger for attention, Caspian excels in attacking opponents without getting spotted. In turn, his strong Speed and Strength make for deadly combos, thanks to his Gauntlets and Katars. Newcomers will appreciate Caspian for his more close-quarters approach.
Interestingly, Caspian’s Katar Signatures focus on fierce slashes - including a wide fan attack (NSig), a forward launch strike (SSig), and a charge-based leap with a throw component (DSig). Likewise, his Gauntlets rely on explosive AOE attacks. He has a time-triggered bomb (NSig), a leaping bomb-throw (SSig), and a recoiling cluster bomb attack (DSig).
8 Ada (Blasters, Spear)
Ada was the best hacker-spy trained by the Meyers Baby Food Corporation until she turned rogue and found Right Wrong Cavaliers, a hacker-slash-post-punk revival band. While she believes Valhalla is just a simulation, Ada strives to win regardless with her Blasters and Spear combo. Given her proficiency in Dexterity, Ada specializes in pinpoint strikes and attacks. Newcomers will like Ada as a starter Legend for long-range incursions.
Her Blaster attacks work well with distance attacks, with her Signatures adding more mobility options for her. She has shots that explode on contact (NSig), a blast-launch attack (SSig), and a recoiling series of blasts (DSig). Meanwhile, her Spear attacks allow her to defend herself up close. She has a swing attack (NSig), a quick slash (SSig), and a short breakdance attack (DSig).
7 Zariel (Gauntlets, Bow)
Zariel is a Seraphim on a mission to investigate Odin’s rising army of valkyries for the end-times. This leads him to Brawlhalla, and Zariel will soon discover the meaning of fun in combat. Despite his angelic status, Zariel has rather low Dexterity and Speed, but he does have equally high Strength and Defense. Newcomers and beginner fighters will appreciate Zariel for his more straightforward approach to combat.

However, Zariel’s Signatures compensate for his lack of mobility. His Bow has an upwards three-arrow attack (DSig), a forward leap attack (SSig), and a two-tier arrow combo (NSig). Meanwhile, his Gauntlet Signatures excel in keeping the enemy close to him. Zariel has a short-range grab-throw (DSig), and two launching grab variations (NSig, SSig).
6 Wu Shang (Gauntlets, Spear)
In his mastery of martial arts, former General Wu Shang opened his inner eye and perfected the art of distraction. Despite his old appearance, Wu Shang is just as proficient in fighting. His Gauntlets/Spear combo emphasizes getting close to the enemy and manipulating their movement, perfect for newcomers who want to test their attack strings.
His Spear Signatures include a fireball attack (DSig), a kick-strike (SSig), and a spinning attack (NSig). Meanwhile, his Gauntlets deter enemy advance. He has a forward spinning leap (NSig), a forward energy blast with a teleport (SSig), and a sideways energy release (DSig).
5 Mirage (Scythe, Spear)
Famed for her expertise in martial arts and the occult, the spy Mirage traveled far back in time in pursuit of an evil Professor. Mirage specializes in mid-range combat, courtesy of her Scythe and Spear. She has decent Strength and Dexterity, but a lack of Defense - meaning newcomers who love explosive attacks in exchange for a slightly squishy character will want to use her.
Given the nature of her weapons, Mirage’s Signatures have a decent range. Her Scythe has a diagonal grapple strike with a sand clone (NSig), a buried dash (SSig), and a stationary all-around attack (DSig). Likewise, her Spears allow her to have a buried dash attack (NSig), a multi-spear attack (SSig), and an all-around spear eruption (DSig).
4 Hattori (Sword, Spear)
The gifted swordswoman Hattori had to marry a Demon to slay their brother that kidnapped her sisters. Now a half-demon herself, Hattori realized she has developed an unquenchable thirst for battle. Her specialization with the Sword and the Spear complements her high Speed and Dexterity, helping newcomers who want to train with high-speed characters.

Among her Sword Signatures are very wide-movement attacks. She has a spin attack that switches her direction (SSig), a teleport-downward slash (NSig), and a backward skip followed by a lunge (DSig). Meanwhile, her Spear Signatures let her cover more range as well. These include a skip-kick (SSig), an attack from a smoke shroud (NSig), and a burrowing upward slash (DSig).
3 Val (Gauntlets, Sword)
Val 9000 seems like the standard killer robot - but in her case, a murderous killer bot CEO with a modeling agency and a former love for talk radio. While Strength is her lowest stat, her supremacy in Speed and Defense allows her to go fast and loose with her Gauntlets/Sword preference.
Her Sword light attacks focus on movement-slash combos, allowing her to strike foes while zig-zagging around the map. Her Signature attacks include a dual upward slash (NSig), a breakdance combo (DSig), and a three-variant attack (SSig). Meanwhile, her Gauntlets have a more straightforward series of Signatures. Val can make a timer-based shuriken punch (DSig), a forward charge and blast (SSig), and a multi-move leap attack (NSig).
2 Roland (Rocket Lance, Sword)
Sir Roland remained as victorious as ever throughout his stellar career - to the point that even the Valkyrie Hypernia refused to let Sir Roland and his amazing beard go to the afterlife without dying in an honorable battle. Newcomers will like playing Sir Roland for his more aggressive playstyle. Essentially, his Rocket Lance/Sword arsenal favors frontal and upward attacks.
Sword Signatures for Sir Roland focus on horizontal and vertical movement. These include a powerful upward slash (NSig), frontal attacks (SSig), and even long-range pillars to the front (DSig). Meanwhile, his Rocket Lance emphasizes punchy movement. This moveset includes a forward jump joust with a golden horse (NSig), a fierce poke (SSig), and a joust coupled with an armored form (DSig).
1 Koji (Bow, Sword)
Koji looks like the stereotypical samurai at first glance - but this wandering “basic samurai” is swift on the uptake. His light attacks on both his Sword and Bow hit fast and hit hard, giving newcomers room to string attacks efficiently. Moreover, his Sword/Bow arsenal gives him a healthy balance of melee and ranged attacks.
His trusty Bow can tackle threats from afar with varying degrees of flexibility, with his Signatures giving room for mid-range (SSig), vertical (NSig), and situational (DSig) attacks. Meanwhile, his Sword Signatures covers a large area. These come in the form of a swift frontal strike (DSig), a fierce upward slash (NSig), and a chargeable two-strike attack (SSig).
